D'Arcy Kemnitz has more than 20 years experience working in the nonprofit arena and the social justice movement. In her present position as Executive Director of the NLGLA, she organizes the only national, annual lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) law student Career Fair and Continuing Legal Education Conference. The National Association for Law Placement presented the Career Fair with its prestigious 2008 Award of Distinguish for Diversity. Additionally, Ms. Kemnitz orchestrates collaboration between over 25 affiliated local, state and regional voluntary LGBT bar associations and dozens of LGBT law student associations. The NLGLA features eight formal LGBT diversity liaisons to various entities within the American Bar Association, including a position in the House of Delegates. Ms. Kemnitz has spoken at numerous law schools and bar associations across the country and has published in the University of Baltimore Journal of Environmental Law, MCCA’s Diversity & the Bar Magazine, various ABA publications and, most recently, the GP/Solo Magazine on LGBT issues. She has appeared in the media presenting issues of LGBT diversity in the profession at ABC News, and The Advocate Magazine, among others. Before leading the NLGLA, Ms. Kemnitz was the Executive Director of the Wildlife Advocacy Project and a staff attorney at the Center for Food Safety. Ms. Kemnitz is a distinguished graduate of the University of Wisconsin and the Hamline University School of Law.

Juan Ramon Garcia is a graduate of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). An engineer by training, Juan worked for a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives and the Government of the District of Columbia's Office of the State Superintendent of Education before joining the NLGLA in April of 2008. Juan was a founding member of Caltech PRIDE, the campus’s first LGBT group to include students, faculty and staff.

Justin Johns is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, with a degree in Mass Communications. He joined the NLGLA in June of 2008, after working in the tobacco-control movement at the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.

Senior Accounting Administrator (Part-Time)
The National Lesbian and Gay Law Association (NLGLA)/National Lesbian and Gay Law Foundation (NLGLF), located in Washington, DC, announces an exciting opportunity for an accounting professional committed to its mission of advancing diversity and promoting justice in and through the legal profession.
NLGLA/NLGLF recently completed a strategic plan and is poised for growth. If you are a hands-on, flexible and high-energy accounting professional willing to take on a broad range of tasks in a small office environment, this newly created part-time Senior Accounting Administrator position will allow you to play a key role in helping NLGLA/NLGLF achieve its strategic and operational goals.
Position Overview:
The Senior Accounting Administrator will partner with the Executive Director to develop and implement financial strategies that support program activities and initiatives. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of financial management in a not-for-profit or association environment and will be prepared to serve as a financial resource for the Executive Director, staff and the Board of Directors.
This position will oversee a one-quarter time administrative staff and will be responsible for all financial activities, including financial planning and reporting, cash flow projections, accounts payable/receivable, purchasing, payroll, and insurance. This position will also team with the Executive Director to support HR, IT, office services, and vendor relations functions.
In addition, the Senior Accounting Administrator will recommend and implement fiscal procedures that support sound financial management and are in alignment with board policies, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable legislation and regulations.
Duties:
Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements

Present financial reports to the Executive Director, Treasurer, Finance Committee and Board of Directors

Assist Executive Director in preparation of annual budget

Work closely with Executive Director to research, develop and implement financial strategies to support program activities and initiatives

Prepare cash flow and forecasting projections
-
Process and review accounts payable and accounts receivable (in conjunction with part-time clerical staff)

Analyze and reconcile all balance sheet accounts including bank accounts, accounts receivable, investments, fixed assets, other assets, accounts payable and other liability accounts

Record and reconcile semi-monthly payroll activity (payroll is prepared and processed by Paychex)

Record and reconcile online credit card receipts (credit card payments processed through MemberClicks)
-
Allocate expenses to NLGLA/NLGLF program activities
-
Conduct periodic and timely review and maintenance of financial data entry and general ledger detail to ensure proper and consistent recording of activities

Coordinate and manage the timely completion of year-end tax and other compliance reporting

Liaison to outside accountant during annual review/audit

Other duties as assigned based on the needs of NLGLA/NLGLF
Education and Experience Requirements
Four- year degree in accounting or two-year degree with a minimum of ten years accounting experience in an association or not-for-profit environment

Minimum 3 years not-for-profit or association experience

Experience with Microsoft Excel and QuickBooks Pro for Non-profits

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), legislation and regulations concerning not-for-profit accounting and reporting

Detail-oriented with excellent analytical skills

Ability to plan, organize, complete and review work with minimal supervision

Experience with Paychex and MemberClicks a plus

Engaging interpersonal skills

Well-developed verbal, written and presentation skills
